FuckUp Nights Tokyo is back for Volume 28 at Code Chrysalis! Last time was a blast so we are already excited to be inspired by the next FuckUp stories about failure and the lessons learned from them!
FuckUp Nights is a global movement that started in Mexico in 2012 and has spread to 250+ cities in more than 80+ countries around the world. The concept of FuckUp Nights is simple: breaking away from the stigmas surrounding (business) ‘failure’. The lessons we can learn from failure are often more valuable and interesting than stories about success. The majority of startups and professionals don’t create ‘the project of year’ on their first attempt, yet we rarely hear about their failures in books, magazines or at events. FuckUp Nights wants to change that by organizing events where people are able to come together, network, share, learn and celebrate stories about business failure.
We would like to invite all (aspiring) entrepreneurs, freelancers and professionals who want to hear, share, discuss and celebrate stories about business failure. We offer you an opportunity to freely discuss the concept of failure, and learn from the experiences of others; all in a cozy and casual setting. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet new like-minded people and have a chance to share issues that you do usually not tend to discuss at other events.
The format of every FuckUp Nights is simple: 3 or 4 people take the stage to share their FuckUp stories, followed by a Q&A, and ending with time to network. The presenters tell their story with their slides in 7 minutes. The stories are always structured in the following way:
1) What was your project?
2) What went wrong?
3) What did you learn?
4) What would you do differently?
Fristy is a seasoned leader in the cosmetics industry in Japan. As the Chief Information Officer at a luxury cosmetics brand, Fristy is responsible for shaping the organization's technological landscape. Besides her full-time job, she actively contributes to the professional community, serving as a Community Manager and Education Mentor. She loves exploring spirituality and self-development. In the past, as a member of the JICA expert team, she played a pivotal role in improving the quality of water supply companies in Indonesia as part of an international cooperation project. Furthermore, she is dedicated to helping individuals achieve their highest potential by regularly delivering free webinars at GrowthSpace ID and offering free mentorship through ADPList.

Born into a low-middle-income family in Indonesia, she faced the odds with determination etched in her eyes. Despite the financial struggle, she pursued her dreams, juggling university studies with part-time jobs as a private teacher and laboratory assistant. She has to study harder than her friends to keep her scholarship going.
Civil engineering, her chosen field, felt like a heavy burden. After graduation, she ventured into various industries, from construction to sales, language teaching, and public relations, in search of her true identity.
In 2019, Fristy found herself in the IT sector and later in the world of cosmetics, but something was amiss. Lost amid corporate roles, she discovered solace in meditation and spirituality. Through introspection, she learned to shed societal expectations and embrace her authenticity. In the silence of meditation, Fristy found her true self, transforming her journey from one of survival to a profound exploration of inner peace and self-discovery.
Marc Anderson came to Japan in 2006 on the JET program and spent a number of years in the language education and international exchange fields as a business English trainer, program supervisor, and later as a manager in one of Japan’s biggest tech companies. In 2020, he co-founded Comas LLC to support Japanese businesses and individuals in overcoming language and communication challenges. Marc is passionate about coaching and holds a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential from the International Coach Federation (ICF). He is also an avid cook and enjoys cooking various cuisines from around the world.

Born in Egypt and living in Japan since the age of 10, I am trilingual, Arabic, English, Japanese which has helped me in my current role as the Country Manager for a Web and Mobile Development Consultancy hailing from France. On the side I compete in Kickboxing, I like to paint from time to time, and enjoy a relaxing evening at home or in a quiet park with my dog.
