As always, our event will be held in English and Japanese with translation for the speakers. We will be also live-streaming on FuckUp Nights Tokyo official Facebook page, so in case you forgot to sign up in advance, you can still watch from the facebook live-stream! About FuckUp Nights
FuckUp Nights is a global movement that started in Mexico in 2012 and has spread to 250+ cities in more than 80+ countries around the world. The concept of FuckUp Nights is simple: breaking away from the stigmas surrounding (business) ‘failure’. The lessons we can learn from failure are often more valuable and interesting than stories about success. The majority of startups and professionals don’t create ‘the project of year’ on their first attempt, yet we rarely hear about their failures in books, magazines or at events. FuckUp Nights wants to change that by organizing events where people are able to come together, network, share, learn and celebrate stories about business failure. Want to know more details? Why join FuckUp Nights Tokyo?
We would like to invite all (aspiring) entrepreneurs, freelancers and professionals who want to hear, share, discuss and celebrate stories about business failure. We offer you an opportunity to freely discuss the concept of failure, and learn from the experiences of others; all in a cozy and casual setting. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet new like-minded people and have a chance to share issues that you do usually not tend to discuss at other events.
The Fuck Up Nights Event Format
The format of every FuckUp Nights is simple: 3 or 4 people take the stage to share their FuckUp stories, followed by a Q&A, and ending with time to network. The presenters tell their story with their slides in 7 minutes. The stories are always structured in the following way:
1) What was your project?
2) What went wrong?
3) What did you learn?
4) What would you do differently?

Speaker No.1 : Jacob Iyamu
CEO and Founder of Lunaris
Short Bio:
After self-funding a trip to Japan at the age of 15, Jacob knew he wanted to share his love of the Japanese otaku culture with the world. Originally from Germany, he has now called Tokyo home for over 10 years, where he grew his first business out of his small apartment into a leading online global retailer for otaku goods. He now heads a second business as well, offering e-commerce apps and development for online merchants in Japan and overseas. While free time can be hard to find, he spends it gaming with friends and, more recently, learning to code.

Jacob finally found an opportunity to bring a touch of the Japanese otaku culture to the world in a big way, with his sights first set on his home country of Germany. And overnight, his million-dollar idea went from being just a dream into reality. Celebration came just as quickly as success, but a seemingly insignificant loose end from his past would come back to haunt him, proving that sometimes things really are too good to be true...
Speaker No.2 : CJ Hostetter & JB Vasseur
Short Bio of CJ & JB:
CJ (they/them) is a design leader, maker, and an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. During their study abroad in Japan thirteen years ago, they came to see Tokyo as a "second home." They moved from Texas to Tokyo in 2017 and since then have been active in both the design and LGBTQ+ spheres. In the daytime, they work as a UX Researcher and Designer for a startup called yamaneco, and in the evenings as an indie dev for Terranova, a video game about roleplay and queer otaku culture on the early internet of the 2000's.
JB is an Agile coach and the CEO of yamaneco, a Tokyo based company supporting teams and organizations to create better working environments and achieve better outcomes with Agile, UX, and DevOps coaching, and practices adoption support. Settled in Japan since 2004, JB has previously worked as an IT engineer for automotive and banking industries, and as a Project Manager in the digital contents software industry.

What an exciting opportunity! JB had always wanted to build a product that was positively impactful to the community. With CJ, who had researched and tested an idea for making small community chats to solve loneliness and alienation within the LGBTQ+ community.
Together, they had a problem, an idea to solve it, and a team who could craft it. They were excited by their shared love and vision for the LGBTQ+ community. What could go wrong? Well...
